Hello, I'm Angelica
Angelica Contreras’ passion for public service and advocacy began in Houston, Texas, where she studied at the Law Enforcement and Criminal Justice School. In 1999, she moved with her family to Shakopee, Minnesota, and quickly became deeply involved in serving and strengthening her community.
For more than a decade, Angelica has worked with the WIC Program serving Scott and Carver Counties as a Certified Lactation Consultant and currently serves as the program’s Administrative Specialist. Through her work, she has supported countless local families and helped improve access to community health resources.
Angelica’s leadership journey has included serving as Outreach Director for the Shakopee Soccer Association Board, President of the Shakopee Diversity Alliance, and a board member for River Valley Health Services. She currently serves as Chair of the Association for Professionals and Students. She is also an active member of Alma de Mujer y Vida and was honored with the Presea Award in May 2019 for her dedication to community service and advocacy.
In November 2018, Angelica was elected to the Shakopee City Council, becoming the first woman of color to serve the City of Shakopee in that role. Now serving her second term on the council, she has championed initiatives including the city’s Riverfront Vision and Cultural Corridor projects, helping shape a more connected, vibrant, and inclusive future for Shakopee.
Above all, Angelica is proud to be a wife of 30 years and the mother of four amazing young adults. Her commitment to family, community, and service continues to guide her vision for Shakopee’s future.
